Chapter 1

The Uselessness of Worry

Unknown Speaker

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Pleasant Spirit Podcast. I'm Kyle, and as always, I'm here with my favorite co-host and partner in all things, Kelsey. Today, we're diving into something that, honestly, I think we all wrestle with—worry. And, you know, whether it's big stuff or just those little nagging thoughts, it seems like worry is always hanging around, right?

Kelsey

Oh, absolutely. I mean, I was literally just worrying about whether I was gonna finish my latest crochet project before the weekend. Spoiler alert: I did, and it turned out way better than I expected! But, like, I spent all this energy stressing over it, and for what? The yarn didn't unravel, the world didn't end, and I actually enjoyed making it once I stopped fussing over every little stitch.

Unknown Speaker

Yeah, and that's the thing—who actually benefits from all that worrying? I mean, I can't think of a single time where worrying added a minute to my life. If anything, it just drains you, you know? It's like, you spend all this time and energy on something that doesn't actually change the outcome.

Kelsey

Exactly! And, you know, sometimes I catch myself thinking, "Well, if I worry about it, maybe I'll be more prepared." But honestly, all it does is make me tired and cranky. And then I end up missing out on the fun part—like, the actual crocheting, or just being in the moment. It's kind of silly when you think about it.

Unknown Speaker

Yeah, and I think a lot of us fall into that trap. We convince ourselves that worrying is somehow productive, but really, it's just spinning our wheels. I mean, as we talked about in that episode about unmet expectations, sometimes letting go is the best thing you can do for yourself. Worry just keeps you stuck.

Kelsey

Totally. And, you know, if worrying actually worked, I'd probably be a millionaire by now. But here I am, just a lady with a lot of yarn and a few too many half-finished scarves. So, maybe it's time to let that go a little, huh?

Chapter 2

Enjoying the Passage of Time

Unknown Speaker

That actually leads right into something I've been thinking about lately. There's this line from James Taylor—"The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time." I mean, it's simple, but it hits home. I remember this one time, I was hiking a stretch of the Appalachian Trail. It was raining, my gear was soaked, and I was starting to get frustrated. But then I just stopped, took a breath, and listened to the rain on the leaves. Suddenly, it wasn't about getting to the next campsite or worrying about wet socks. It was just... peaceful. That moment stuck with me way more than any of the stressful parts.

Kelsey

I love that. And, you know, it's so easy to get caught up in the rush—like, always thinking about the next thing, or what could go wrong. But when you actually pause and just, like, notice the way your coffee smells in the morning, or the sound of Khloe giggling in the other room, it changes everything. It's like, the stress just kind of melts away for a second.

Unknown Speaker

Yeah, and I think that's something we can all practice, even in the middle of a busy day. Like, instead of letting your mind race with worries, just focus on what's right in front of you. Maybe it's the feel of the sun on your face, or the rhythm of your breath. It doesn't have to be a big, dramatic thing. Sometimes it's those tiny moments that make the biggest difference.

Kelsey

And, honestly, it's a lot like what we talked about in that Plinko episode—life's gonna bounce you around, but if you can find a way to enjoy the ride, even when it's unpredictable, it just feels lighter. I mean, I still have days where I forget and get all wound up, but then I remember, "Oh yeah, I can just be here, right now."

Unknown Speaker

Exactly. It's not about ignoring the hard stuff, but about choosing to notice the good stuff, too. And, you know, sometimes that means letting go of the need to control every outcome and just appreciating the passage of time, like James Taylor said.

Chapter 3

Living with Presence and Positivity

Kelsey

So, I guess the big takeaway is—don't take life so seriously, right? I mean, it's easy to get bogged down by all the things we think we should be doing or worrying about. But when we let go a little, that's when the magic happens. Like, the other night, Khloe was trying to teach us her new dance moves in the living room. I could've been thinking about my to-do list, but instead, I just joined in. And it was hilarious! I mean, I am not a dancer, but we laughed so hard, and it turned into this really sweet memory.

Unknown Speaker

Yeah, and that's what it's all about—being present, finding joy in those small, ordinary moments. I think when we let go of worry, we make space for more of those experiences. It's like, the less energy we spend on what might go wrong, the more we have for what’s actually happening right now. And, you know, from a spiritual perspective, that's where real peace comes from. It's not about having a perfect life, but about being present for the life you have.

Kelsey

And, honestly, it's a practice. Some days, I'm better at it than others. But I think that's okay. Like, we don't have to get it right all the time. We just have to keep showing up, keep choosing presence, and keep finding those little sparks of joy—even if it's just in a cup of coffee or a silly dance party with your kid.

Unknown Speaker

Yeah, and I think that's a good place to wrap up for today. Thanks for joining us, everyone. Remember, it's not about being perfect—it's about being present. We'll be back in a couple weeks with more stories, more laughs, and hopefully, a little more wisdom to share.

Kelsey

Thanks for hanging out with us! Go enjoy the passage of time, and we'll see you next time. Bye, Kyle!

Unknown Speaker

Bye, Kelsey. Take care, everyone.
